A NEW KITCHEN & MORE!
The little house on Mockingbird Lane was starting to take shape and the next phase included a whole new kitchen. I went with clean-lined, shaker style cabinetry. I lacquered the cabinets in Benjamin Moore’s Simply White and contrasted the island in Coventry Gray. For the countertops I chose Colonial White granite ~ it’s a beautiful, soft white stone w/ small amounts of light grays and sands. I chose stainless steel appliances (that would be installed later, once the wood floors went in), an extra deep, stainless sink w/ a commercial style faucet and chose elegant, polished nickel cabinet hardware. The backsplash is a white, 3” x 6”, beveled subway tile with white grout. I highlighted the cooktop area with a beautiful inset of 8” x 8” hand-made, white cement encaustic tile w/ a charcoal & warm gray pattern and used a light gray grout.
Lots was happening in other parts of the house as well. Just when the dust had started to settle from all the kitchen carpentry work, things got messy again as rough plumbing and electrical work continued, carpenters installed crown molding wherever there wasn’t any, and walls and ceilings got a light texture ~ but we muscled through! That’s what brooms and shop vacs are for ~ oh and helpful husbands who pop in with cold refreshments and ask if there’s anything they can do…DUH!!!
The master bath was getting a make over of it’s own. I expanded the shower and installed a new Jacuzzi tub. New tile went down on the floor, in the shower, around the tub and the backsplashes. A half panel, seamless glass shower door, granite counter, new sinks & faucets were all installed.
The hall bath got a new tile floor, a granite counter, tile backsplash, new sink & faucet, tub faucet and a shower head.
Next up ~ into the home stretch…paint, new wood floors, carpet & more!!!
